چکیده

Blackbody levels of emission in the electron cyclotron range of frequencies have been observed from an overdense (vpe;3vce) Madison Symmetric Torus @Dexter et al., Fusion Technol. 19, 131 ~1991!# reversed field pinch plasma, a result of electrostatic electron Bernstein waves emitted from the core and mode converted into electromagnetic waves at the extreme plasma edge. Comparison of the measured radiation temperature with profiles measured by Thomson scattering indicates that the mode conversion efficiency can be as high as ;75%. Emission is preferentially in the X-mode polarization, and is strongly dependent upon the density and magnetic field profiles at the mode conversion point. © 2002 American Institute of Physics. @DOI: 10.1063/1.1447253#

Coupling to the electron Bernstein wave using a phased array of waveguides in MST reversed field pinch

Coupling to the electron Bernstein wave (EBW) via a phased array of waveguides is experimentally investigated in the Madison symmetric torus reversed field pinch (RFP). EBWs promise to provide localized heating and current drive in overdense plasmas such as those in the RFP, provided a technique can be developed to efficiently couple power from an externally launched electromagnetic wave to the...

Psfc/ja-01-32 Emission of Electron Bernstein Waves in Plasmas

it has been shown that, in overdense plasmas of the type encountered in spherical tori, electron Bernstein waves can be excited in a plasma by mode conversion of either an externally launched X mode or an O mode. The electron Bernstein waves are strongly absorbed by electrons in the region where the wave frequency matches the Doppler broadened electron cyclotron resonance frequency or its harmo...

گرم کردن پلاسما با امواج برنشتاین الکترونی از طریق واگردانی امواج عادی و فراعادی درلایه UHR

Magnetically confined plasma can be heated with high power microwave sources. In spherical torus the electron plasma frequency exeeds the electron cyclotron frequency (EC) and, as a consequence, electromagnetic waves at fundamental and low harmonic EC cannot propagate within the plasma. In contrast, electron Bernstein waves (EBWs) readily propagate in spherical torus plasma and are absorbed str...

Electron Bernstein waves (EBW) are suitable for heating, current drive, and radiation temperature measurements of overdense plasma, ωpe>>ωce , in spherical torus devices. In NSTX, design of a multi-megawatt EBW current drive system is supported by experimental measurements and computations of obliquely viewing, dual-polarization EBW emission (EBE) radiometry. Efficient EBW coupling, 80±20% at 1...

Transparency of overdense plasma with V shape density profile

In this study, we investigate the transparency of an overdense inhomogeneous plasma slab. This anomalous transmission is achieved when the conditions provided for the incident electromagnetic wave to excite coupled surface waves on the both sides of the slab. These conditions require that the homogeneous overdense plasma, or the metallic film, is placed between two dielectric layers. Here, the ...
